A criminal matter begins when someone accused of breaking the law is brought before the Courts. The accused person can be an adult or a child (a person under the age of 18 years).
Bail is an agreement by the accused person to come to Court for every court hearing. Bail allows the accused person to stay out of jail or prison until the Magistrate or Judge makes a decision on the court case.
